Sesame Soy Glazed Beef Skewers

Rich and delicious, just like the lovely Jonty’s Ducks Pekin Red.

A triumph of South African winemaking.  This organic red blend is balanced, soft and an excellent accompaniment for rich foods.

Sesame Soy Skewer

Recipe

  • INGREDIENTS
  • 200g filet or sirloin steak around 2.5cm thick
  • 4 small spring onions
  • 1 red pepper
  • For the Glaze
  • 1 lemongrass stalk (or 1 tsp lemongrass purée)
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp sunflower oil
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp hot chilli sauce (optional)
  • Salt and pepper for seasoning
  • Sesame seeds for serving

You could marinate the beef a day in advance if you are super organised!

  • Cut the beef into 1 inch cubes, the spring onion stalks (with the green outers removed) into 1 inch lengths – on an angle and the pepper into 1 inch squares.
  • Combine the lemongrass purée (or finely dice the juicy bit of the fresh lemongrass), honey, oils, soy, chilli sauce and season.
  • Add the beef, red pepper and spring onion and coat well.  Leave in the fridge for an hour or 2 if you have the time.
  • Soak the skewers if you are using wood or use metal skewers and skewer a piece of beef, one pepper and one spring onion piece onto each skewer.
  • Pre-heat the grill (or the bbq) and cook on a high heat until the both sides are seared but the inside is still pink (6 mins maximum).  Sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve with a glass of Jonty’s Red.
