Everyone agrees that the simple things in life tend to be the best ones. And when it comes to marrying the right food and wine combinations, there is nothing better. But it’s a tricky old business and for years I worked with top chefs and sommeliers, trying to work out the ultimate combos, so often failing. More often than not, we settled for ‘satisfactory’ combinations. Which is why it is the ultimate joy when you hit upon perfection – like a Blue Moon, perfection doesn’t happen very often so we shout about it when it does.
Here’s one that Jude came up with the other day in anticipation of our Lockdown Live event for Race Against Dementia (Wed 4th Nov 7pm) and wow, were we blown away. The secret is in the curing of the egg – the texture of the yolk becomes rich, creamy and substantial – if you’ve never tried this, give it a go. It’s a mind-blower!

The other day, we were invited to join Radio Surrey’s Breakfast Presenter, Lesley McCabe for a good old natter about the weird transition from ‘real life’ tastings to virtual wine tastings during 2020. Who would ever have imagined how popular and successful they would be, broadcasting via a Zoom platform to anything from a small initimate gathering to literally hundreds of participants. What’s more, Finn (Hannibal’s resident pooch) is the star of the show!

It’s hard to believe that we launched our live streams three months ago! In line with the lockdown, twice weekly, we’ve been using Facebook Live! and YouTube to broadcast a light-hearted albeit informative natter direct from Hannibal Brown HQ. Anyone who’s been viewing thus far will know that Finn the Mastiff has been the star of the show – there’s been a fair amount of stealing the canapes, spilling the wines, but we love the big feller for all his clumsiness.
This Thursday at 7pm, we’re hosting our very first ‘Meet the Winemakers’ event. We welcome Gary and Kathy Jordan, winemakers extraordinaires from the dazzlingly impressive Jordan Estate, South African Winery of the Year in 2014. Not only do they make incredible wine, Kathy is behind the ‘Women in Wine’ initiative and they’re famous of their pioneering planting techniques. Technology all being well, they’ll join us to chat through some of their most remarkable wines. These folk are an inspiration to any winemaking nation.
